ROMIC road bike custom built with comfort in mind. Relaxed geometry, longer steer tube, longer chainstays, large wheel clearance all make this work. The tubing is Reynolds 531 Super Tourist, a sturdier grade. Top tube and seat tube are 56 cm center to center. Campagnolo Athena 16 speed group was installed then modified for 24 speed gearing by adding a Racing Triple crank set and triple derailleurs. American Classic seat post. Wheels have Athena (?) hubs and Mavic Reflex rims with 700 x 28 touring tires with room for fenders or larger tires. Athena brake levers and calipers. Two Specialized bottle cages, also a seat pack. No pedals, or old Look pedals without cleats (unused). The hub QRs are from American Classic, I probably have original Campy parts but not sure I can identify them in boxes. The drive parts are there too, you can have them. The original rear tire shows about 200 miles of wear, which is probably true for the whole bike. The serial number is 144109111396, Probably logged in November 13, 1996, three days before Roman passed away. It was made for M. Graham who is down sizing his quarters and cleaning out old toys.In 1999 the last Romic bike built was frame 14,724 according to the Romic History site. About The Builder: ROMAN (Ray) J GASIOROWSKI Born: 09/28/1928 – Passed: 11/16/1996 Ray learned much about bicycle building at the Schwinn factory in Chicago and was close to Rudy Schwinn, one of the old school European engineers that helped make Schwinn the quality name it was. Ray worked as a bicycle design and products engineer. Schwinn actually help fund his industrial engineering studies at IIT Institute. He was involved with Paramount frame building Ray was a first line racer in Chicago. Ray rode in the Vuelta de Mexico, and was a finalist in Olympic trials back in the ’50’s. He also raced the “Tour of Somerville” (New Jersey) and did well in it. His army service took him to Europe where he was sponsored by the Army to participate in the Olympic road trials. Ray left Schwinn in 1959 and went to the AMF corporation to head up their production team through the early 70’s. After deciding to forge out on his own he spent a couple years getting the logistics in order to open up a shop. During that time he consulted in Russia on a bicycle startup endeavor. His expertise in high quality building techniques and a great eye for efficient building systems made him an invaluable resource that many sought out over the years. Romic bicycles were built by Roman (Ray) Gasirowski in Houston from the mid 70s until the mid 90s. On some frames he used Nervex-style lugs on others, he used plainer but elegant long point lugs his work was very clean and solid not blingy.
