MANUFACTURER PROVIDED INFORMATION PROTOTYPE HISTORY 4-6-2 USRA Heavy PacificPacific Type. 4-6-2 wheel arrangement, appeared in the United States before the turn of the century. But until 1902 the loco was developed and modernized using a wider fire box.The other locos, in use for passenger service, were relegated to locals and short lines as the Pacifics found nation-wide, even world-wide, acceptance for the job.Some 6,000 units were in service only in the USA. The first USRA Heavy Pacifics were built in 1919 by the American Loco Co. and Baldwin under the USRA program.From 1923 Baldwin copies were also built with larger tenders and with Delta trailing trucks as reproduced in our model.The loco’s firebox was the same as for the USRA Heavy Mikado, but the boiler of the USRA Light Mikado.
