eBay Offered for your consideration is a fine vintage Imperial chef’s knife from their Mighty Oak line. Mighty Oak represented the very finest in Imperial quality. They were only made for a short period of time in the 1970’s or early 1980’s and have become difficult to find. Imperial designed these knives to compete with the European heavyweights and they were marketed towards professional and advanced home cooks. In the end they proved to costly to manufacture and educated cooks just couldn’t equate Imperial with the quality expected from the European makers. That being said, the knives are of exceptional quality and were beautifully made. This is one of the larger, heavier knives they made in this series. It has seen light use and it has been well cared for. The thick blade offers no flex at all and it’s very stout. The blade has been lightly sharpened and it’s free of errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just a few fine, hairline sharpening abrasions as shown. These were magnified quite a bit by the camera flash. The etched markings remain fully visible and bold with great contrast against the bright satin finish. The edge is free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage and remains very nice with just a bit of normal light wear. It remains quite sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although just a few strokes on a good hone or stone would have it razor sharp in no time. The needle-sharp tip is intact and original with no blunting, burrs, or bending. The thick spine is free of any dings, dents, marring, or damage. The handle is of beautifully finished laminated hardwood and it was tightly pinned with nickel silver rivets. The handle remains exceptionally nice and it has a great feel in the hand. It is free of any cracks, chips, dents, gouges, or damage with very little wear. The wood is completely free of the dishwasher damage that’s so common to wood handle and it shows no water exposure damage from normal sink washing either. The surfaces remain dark and rich with no stains or discoloration. The wood retains nearly all of its factory luster and the handle just has a great look all the way around. The blade is actually 9-1/4″ from the tip to the handle and the knife measures 14-1/2″ in overall length. This would be an excellent replacement or spare for someone with an old set. Of course, it would also be great as a stand-alone knife for anyone who appreciates fine, American-made cutlery. A very nice, original example of this classic heavy-duty cook’s knife!
