Hello and Welcome to my auction. Today I have for your consideration a Vtg Rare 1988 reprint of the Original 1976 Lord of the Rings J.R.R. Tolkien Swiss Commercial Poster James Cauty Artwork of Wizard & Genius featuring Gandalf, Frodo and Sam by Idealdecor. This has its original 1988 yellow oak wood frame and glass. This has not been removed since being placed. You can see the little bits of duct tape that were used to hold the posts to the backing show through in the areas on the top middle, top right and bottom left. May include light or minor wear but overall is in great condition as it’s never left this frame. Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details. This still has its original price sticker on the inside back of the poster of $9.95. It is very rare to find this poster in an original frame from its release year, undamaged by the elements and with its price sticker. Measurements are 24” x 36” without the frame and 37.25” x 25.125” x 0.8” in the frame. The frame is starting to separate a little in the corners but is not interfering the overall integrity. In the back side there is 2 area where the wood chipped but that is in the back where it faces into the wall. See pictures. This is based off the J.R.R. Tolkien's “Lord of the Rings” by Jimmy Cauty. No. 2931. In 1976, British art retailer Athena offered a richly detailed Lord of the Rings poster drawn by young artist and musician Jimmy Cauty. The poster would go on to be hugely popular, and it continues to be an iconic representation of J. R. R. Tolkien's masterpiece. Offered here is a 1988 Swiss reprint of Cauty's original work.
