Since about 1972, the Orient and Flume studio of Chico, California has created numerous works of art that just dazzle the imagination. Over the years a number of famous glass artisans and blowers have worked at the factory. Known for many beautiful paperweights, the studio also created exquisite art glass vases of all shapes, colors and designs. One such treatment they used was an iridescent exterior coating often depicting abstract pulled feather, fern and scale patterns. I would call this example a twisted scale design on a hourglass shaped vase. When held in proper light, rainbow colors radiate from the surface delineated by wavy yellow hued lines. On the bottom clearly visible is the studio name as well as a series of numbers and letters. Although this item is not actually dated, I firmly believe it to be from the latter part of the 20th century. The vase stands 6 3/4” tall, measures 2 1/4” across the opening, approximately 5 1/2” across the widest area. Thorough examination reveals no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. An absolutely fabulous example from a world renowned studio. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description.
