This silver plated Walker & Hall liquor locker / tantalus was purchased at the estate sale of the children of Delmer Daves, the legendary Hollywood Writer and Director of some of the greatest westerns in film history including 1950’s Broken Arrow with James Stewart and 3:10 to Yuma. Once I polished the tantalus I realized it was ENGRAVED!! It has the sweetest message that reads “To Del and Mary Lou, For all and forever, Jennifer”. It could be assumed this may have been a wedding gift for them in 1938? Daves worked with some of the best known players of his time including established stars like Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, James Stewart and Richard Widmark. He also helped to develop the careers of up-and-coming players such as Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Felicia Farr and George C. Scott. Can you imagine who shared drinks with him out of this tantalus!?! It is well used, with a repair and silver plate on the top of one decanter and an unrepaired chip on another decanter. There is normal scuffing and minor chipping on the bottoms of each decanter showing that this set was really well loved. I have the original sterling silver liquor labels for sale separately if interested. Walker & Hall is an exquisite English maker out of Sheffield. This tantalus has three antique hand cut crystal bottles (you can see that they are uneven and not machine cut). Generally produced in the late Victorian era, specifically circa 1890, I am unsure of the exact era of manufacture. There are hallmarks but the year hallmark is a little blurry and hard to pinpoint for sure. Maybe you will have better luck identifying!
